Transvaginal Photobiomodulation for the treatment of Dyspareunia
in Endometriosis patients: A Randomized Sham-Controlled Trial

The Patty Brisben Foundation awarded a grant to Medstar Health in 2022 to support research to provide high-quality data regarding a new method to treat chronic pelvic pain.  The goal is to help patients regain some hope on their journey towards improved pain and quality of life standards. This study will likely become a cornerstone in the multimodal treatment of endometriosis-associated chronic pelvic pain.

Vaginal Injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (V.I.P) Study for the Improvement of Sexual Function

In 2022, the Patty Brisben Foundation awarded a grant to Medstar Health to support a study on the use of platelet rich plasma injections to improve sexual function. The study has begun recruiting women ages 18-50 to participate. If you are in the Washington D.C. area and are interested in being part of their research, please review the flyer below.

Platelet Rich Plasma for Management of Vaginal Dryness and Dyspareunia

Vaginal dryness is one of the most commonly reported symptoms of menopause, and it can cause pain during sex and other sexual dysfunction. Menopause is typically treated with hormone therapy; however, not all women are candidates, and some desire non-hormonal options. This study aims to assess whether injections of platelet rich plasma, which is derived from a patient’s blood, can be used to effectively treat vaginal dryness. PBF awarded this grant in spring 2023, and we look forward to seeing the results of this study in 2024.
